Wie kann ein Gesellschaftsmodell aussehen, das uns aus der Krise führt? In keinem Teil der Welt ist die Krise unserer Zeit so tief wie im Nahen und Mittleren Osten. Hier herrschen seit hundert Jahren fast ununterbrochen Krieg und Chaos.
Kaum jemand weiß, wie ein Ausweg aussehen könnte…
Die Krise des Nahen und Mittleren Ostens ist zweifellos eine Systemkrise. Die Nationalstaaten, die nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg in dieser Region entstanden sind, schaffen immer neue Konflikte und Kriege. Die Suche nach einem Ausweg erfordert daher auch die Suche nach einem neuen, alternativen System, einer neuen Gesellschaftsordnung…
Die kurdische Freiheitsbewegung schlägt mit dem demokratischen Konföderalismus ein solches alternatives System vor. Dieses Modell strebt im Nahen und Mittleren Osten eine neue Gesellschaftsordnung jenseits des kapitalistischen Nationalstaatensystems an. An die Stelle hierarchischer, patriarchaler und profitorientierter Strukturen sollen Basisdemokratie, Geschlechterbefreiung und eine ökologische Gemeinwohlökonomie treten.
Doch woher kommt dieses Gesellschaftsmodell, was sind seine theoretischen Grundlagen und wie lässt es sich in einer kriegsgeschüttelten Region umsetzen? Und ist der demokratische Konföderalismus wirklich eine Alternative?
Wir wollen uns sowohl mit der Theorie des Modells als auch mit seiner praktischen Umsetzung in Nord- und Ostsyrien auseinandersetzen. Darüber hinaus wollen wir uns mit der Person beschäftigen, die dieses Modell als Perspektive für die Lösung der kurdischen Frage und als Antwort auf die Krise im Nahen und Mittleren Osten formuliert hat. Abdullah Öcalan sitzt seit 1999 unter verschärften Isolationsbedingungen in türkischer Haft. Von dort aus hat er ein Gesellschaftsmodell vorgeschlagen, das nicht nur den Menschen in der Region wieder Hoffnung auf eine bessere Welt gibt.
Unser Referent Müslüm Örtülü forscht sowohl zur Theorie des Demokratischen Konföderalismus als auch zu seiner praktischen Umsetzung in Nord- und Ostsyrien. Er wird uns die Ergebnisse seiner Dissertation vorstellen und mit uns diskutieren, ob diese Theorie Antworten auf die oben genannten Fragen geben kann.

What kind of model of society could lead us out of the crisis? In no other part of the world is the crisis of our time as deep as in the Middle East. For almost a hundred years, war and chaos have reigned here almost without interruption.
Hardly anyone knows what a way out might look like…
The crisis in the Middle East is undoubtedly a systemic crisis. The nation states that emerged in this region after the First World War are creating more and more new conflicts and wars. The search for a way out therefore also requires the search for a new, alternative system, a new social order…
The Kurdish freedom movement proposes such an alternative system with democratic confederalism. This model aims to establish a new social order in the Middle East that goes beyond the capitalist nation-state system. Hierarchical, patriarchal and profit-oriented structures are to be replaced by base democracy, gender liberation and an ecological economy for the common good.
But where does this social model come from, what are its theoretical foundations and how can it be implemented in a war-torn region? Is democratic confederalism really an alternative?
We want to deal with both the theory of the model and its practical implementation in northern and eastern Syria. In addition, we want to deal with the person who formulated this model as a perspective for solving the Kurdish question and as an answer to the crisis in the Middle East. Abdullah Öcalan has been in Turkish custody under strict isolation conditions since 1999. From there, he has proposed a social model that not only gives people in the region hope for a better world again.
Our speaker Müslüm Örtülü is doing research on both the theory of democratic confederalism and its practical implementation in northern and eastern Syria. He will present the results of his dissertation to us and discuss with us whether this theory can provide answers to the questions mentioned above.
