déi Lénk has many faces and is a diverse movement. We have no party presidency, no professional politicians and no hierarchy. Our people who represent us externally are our two spokespersons. And our people who decide the political orientation of the Left together, are represented in the National Coordination (NAKO).
Spokespeople
Gary Diderich
Gary Diderich is 40 years old and grew up in Differdange where he lives with his family of 2 kids. He had his first political involvement at the age of 16 with the youth section of the major environmental NGO “Mouvement Ecologique”. He studied Philosophy and in parallel, from 2002 to 2017 he worked for an association that he co-founded in order to foster social change through non-formal education. Today, Gary is also active in a housing project that develops alternative forms of affordable housing.
Since 2016 he is one of two spokesperson of déi Lénk and from 2011 to 2020 he was a city councilor in Differdange.
Carole Thoma
Carole Thoma is 32 years old, grew up in Dudelange and still lives there today. She studied civil engineering in Kaiserslautern and has been working as a bridge engineer in Luxembourg for 5 years. During her studies, she became a member of déi Lénk in 2011, first worked in the newly created section in Dudelange, then became politically involved at the national level. Since 2015, she has been co-spokesperson for déi Lénk.
In addition to politics, Carole is also involved at the union level. As a student, she became a member of the OGBL and since 2018 sits on the committee of the union’s local section. Since 2019, she has also been a member of the Chamber of Employees (Chambre des Salariés).
National Coordination
The Congress annually elects a National Coordination (NaCo). This committee is unlimited in number, every member can run for office and every member of déi Lénk can participate in the meetings. The election works on the principle of Gender Parity, meaning that there can only be as many male members elected as there are female members. The NaCo leads déi Lénk throughout the year, takes the important political and financial decisions.
